This timeout has reminded us of our important responsibilities to our players, families, partners and staff, or mostly local college students who lead our teams and rely on seasonal coaching stipends to pay their bills and work toward their educational and career goals. They’re counting on us during this incredibly difficult time and we want to keep meeting those charges. With that said, any individual and corporate donations made to Beyond Soccer will be applied to personnel expenses, or coaching stipends, so that we don’t lose any members of our team and we can fund our youth jobs program this summer. These young people are doing an incredible job staying connected with players and families through remote soccer challenges, Zoom practices, regular wellness checks-ins and other enrichment support thanks to our awesome partner network. Here’s one example those interactions; A YouTube video created by a handful of players, coaches and alumni, responding to Howard University’s toilet paper challenge and Coach Mentor, Adam's @ Home Skillz challenges that he has prepared every week for our Travel Teams.
Any excess funds will be applied to program costs including soccer balls and other sports gear to provide as incentive for kids' remote participation during this tough timeout from sports. Our city youth need access, more than ever, to our healthy activities, positive interactions with friends, teammates and coaches, plus all the other positive mental and physical benefits of team sports. Thank you for considering us.
