Our players returned to fields and courts! Thanks to you and other generous donors, the benefits of team building, leadership skills, and physical activity are all happening during the pandemic. In more good news, Beyond Soccer & Volley has moved to an expanded space with a computer lab, teaching kitchen, and a large multi-purpose room. These additional resources position us to deliver the full scope of experience that distinguishes our program.
As a sports-based youth development program, our mission includes providing social, emotional, and academic growth opportunities for every child we coach. The adverse mental health effects of the pandemic on children are being widely documented, and we must address this critical need for the youth of Lawrence. Along with the continued commitment to all-season recreation and play, our plans include:
- academic “overtime” support with one-on-one tutoring in the computer lab
- health & wellness “fuel for performance” classes for kids and parents in our teaching kitchen
- leadership opportunities from junior coaching and internships
- a youth jobs program for students to earn money, acquire job skills while contributing to our teams, leagues, clinics, and camps
To put it most succinctly, we use soccer and volleyball to engage Lawrence youth and connect them to new experiences that build confidence and create opportunities for leadership, healthy living, and academic achievement. It’s ambitious and vital work.
Please consider making a year-end, tax-deductible gift. Your donation will enable us to continue providing and expanding the program and make a critical difference in the lives of many children and their families.
With sincere thanks, Stephanie, Leti, Johnny, Chris, Oriagna, Gaby (our Notre Dame Cristo Rey Intern), LaLa (our Merrimack College Fellow), our awesome Coach-Mentors & Board of Directors (The "Beyond" Team)
